The Concrete Sustainability Coucil (CSC) has been recognized as a responsible sourcing certification system applicable to the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM). BREEAM is the oldest and most widely used method of assessing, rating and certifying the sustainability of buildings.
BREEAM awards credits for responsibly sourced construction products to encourage responsible product specification and procurement in construction. To achieve these credits, applicable specified products (listed in the relevant technical manual) must be covered by an environmental management system (EMS), or a responsible sourcing certification scheme (RSCS), recognized by BREEAM. After a thorough evaluation by BRE, the CSC has been accepted as one of these RSCS. CSC-certified concrete of all available levels (Bronze and above) is now able to get an RSCS summary score level of 5, allowing CSC to now be applicable to the MAT 03 credits of the BREEAM scheme (or MAT 05 in BREEAM-NL). This not only gives CSC-certified companies an advantage when supplying projects seeking BREEAM certification. It also provides project developers an additional option to earn points under this credit.
