CSI Forum 2013

Vancouver, Canada, 1 & 2 October 2013

The CSI Forum is an annual by-invitation-only industry event for CSI members and partners to engage in a direct dialogue among each other and with stakeholders on sustainable development issues close to heart for the cement industry.

Themed "Sustainable Construction: Building Tomorrow's World", the 2013 forum meeting was co-hosted by HeidelbergCement and Lafarge, two core members of CSI, having operations in Vancouver area and supported by the Cement Association of Canada (CAC).

Opened by a captivating presentation of David Gottfried (also known as the father of the global green building movement), the 2-day discussions cover a wide range of topics relating to sustainable construction. We also had city officials sharing implementation examples in municipalities setting; experience about creating favourable policy environment. Member companies and industry experts presenting on latest innovations, new requirements for materials, energy efficiency and conversation. By taking a closer look into how to add resilience into sustainability, the audience gained a better understanding of a life cycle perspective in sustainable construction. The different presentations resonate a consistent message across, i.e. cement industry is committed and well-positioned to support sustainable construction development.

The event was concluded by a green building tour at the University of British Columbia, where participants were guided through a number of brilliant examples of sustainable construction on campus, listening to the stories behind their green features and operating systems.

Alongside with the forum meetings, the CSI also held its first Communication Partner annual meeting. 10 out of the 14 CSI Communication Partners participated in this meeting and exchanged about the challenges and opportunities faced in different part of the world. Feedback from attendees have been overall positive and similar meeting in future with clear objectives and work plan would be organized.
